Dance, connect, and be part of something unforgettable!

This September, dancers from all over the world are coming to Tromsø for SalsaNor’s Rueda Congress — four days filled with Cuban salsa, music, workshops, parties, and incredible energy. As a volunteer, you won’t just help make the event happen — you’ll become part of the international rueda family.

No problem! You can still have an amazing weekend:

  • On Friday and Saturday night there will also be a dedicated bachata and kizomba area

  • Experience from working at an international event
  • A certificate/reference for your CV if desired

How much do I need to work?

Volunteers work approximately 12–15 hours between Thursday afternoon and Sunday evening. You may also have some influence on how your hours are distributed, if you prefer mostly evening hours (because you wish to attend as many workshops as you can) or daytime hours (because you want to go to all the parties without having to work).

Will I miss most of the congress if I volunteer?

Not at all — you’ll still get to experience a lot of the event!

  • You probably won’t be able to attend absolutely everything, but you’ll still participate in a large part of the congress
  • If you work at the information desk, Saturdays and Sundays are usually quieter, so volunteers can take turns attending workshops
  • If you are a classroom facilitator, you can join the workshop taking place in the room you are assigned to, provided you are at the same level or above. The facilitator team can also coordinate schedules so everyone gets to attend workshops they’re interested in. And as a classroom facilitator you have evenings off and can enjoy all the parties without any working time!
  • If you are part of the evening crew, you’ll most probably be working 2 or 3 of the 4 parties, helping with party entrance duties, venue decoration before the parties and removal of decoration/tidying after the parties. Having this volunteer task, you’ll be completely free to attend daytime workshops.

What kind of tasks might I get?

You will most likely be assigned to one of these teams:

Classroom Facilitators

You’ll be present in one of the workshop rooms, helping instructors with practical needs such as:

  • making sure they have water
  • helping with microphones or sound setup, calling the technician if needed
  • checking that participants are attending the correct level (participants wear colour-coded wristbands)
  • assisting with anything else the instructor may need

You may also participate in the workshop yourself if the level suits you.

Information Desk

Tasks include:

  • participant registration
  • selling bus tickets for the Friday Daytime Social
  • answering questions
  • selling merchandise

Evening Crew

Tasks include:

  • decorating party venues according to instructions from the party coordinator
  • selling entrance tickets
  • checking wristbands and party passes at the entrance
  • Remove decoration and/or tidying after parties

Additional shared tasks may include:

  • picking up or driving artists to/from the airport
  • hosting the Friday Daytime Social
  • helping with other practical needs during the weekend

When will I know my tasks?

  • All volunteers will receive their task descriptions and work schedules well before the congress starts
  • You may suggest (when registering as a volunteer) tasks that you would like to have, are specially skilled for, or tasks that you rather not want to do.
  • Volunteers will be added to WhatsApp groups according to their teams so you can communicate with the others in your group
