Theme for this years Gala evening, Classic White, is connected both to Cuba and to our host city Bergen. White is probably the over-all favourite dress colour for any Cuban, and also a initiation colour in the afro-cuban Yoruba tradition.
Bergen is the home city of world famous composer of classical music, Edvard Grieg. He was born here 15th of June 1843. His most famous compositions are Piano Concerto in a minor, Incidental music for Ibsen’s drama “Peer Gynt” (Morning Mood, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Solveig’s Song a.o.), Lyric Pieces for piano and the Holberg Suite.
Another famous musician from Bergen, was the Norwegian virtuoso violinist and composer Ole Bull (1810-1880). According to Robert Schumann, he was on a level with Niccolò Paganini for the speed and clarity of his playing.
We even have a very creative Norwegian musician, Sverre Indris Joner, that has arranged several pieces of classical music, from Edvard Grieg and also composers like Bach, Mozart, Beethoven etc, into Cuban rhythms to be performed classical orquestas, see below.
Be inspired and plan for your elegant Classic White outfit!
