What parties and social events are included in the congress?
There are social dance events every day of the congress, each with its own flavor. Here’s the breakdown:
Thursday: Opening Party – The first night kicks off with a welcome party (usually starting around 21:00 and going until 02:00). This is a casual party at the venue to meet and dance with everyone as they arrive. Sometimes there’s a short intro or announcements, but mostly it’s social dancing to get us warmed up.
Friday: “Fiesta Sabor Cubano” – On Friday night (approximately 21:30–02:00) there is a Cuban-themed party. Expect lots of Timba (Cuban salsa music) and maybe some rueda de casino animations (impromptu group ruedas and line dances). It’s a high-energy social where everyone can practice the new moves from workshops. No special dress code, just wear something comfortable or Cuban-themed if you feel festive.
Saturday: Gala Night – Saturday is the big Gala party. It actually starts with a seated Gala Dinner in the evening (around 20:00) for those with Full Pass, followed by the main party of the weekend. This party often has a theme (see next question for dress code) and is the highlight social event. There may be shows or performances during this party – for example, instructors or teams might perform showcases. In 2025, a group Rueda choreography learned in the Pre-Congress was presented during one of the parties (participation was optional). The Gala party typically runs a bit later (22:00–02:00 or later). It’s a chance to dress up, take photos, and dance the night away in style.
Sunday: Farewell Party – Sunday night is the “Fiesta Adiós” farewell social (usually 21:00–02:00). It’s the last hurrah of the congress. The vibe is joyous but bittersweet as we know it’s the final night. Often, there’s a more laid-back or nostalgic feel. They might play a mix of salsa, son, and some fun tracks to close out the event. Sometimes there are brief thank-yous or a circle where everyone dances one big rueda to end the congress.
In addition to the nighttime parties, don’t forget the Friday Daytime Social event (detailed below) which is an included social activity during the day on Friday, outside the hotel.
All official parties are included in the Full Pass, so you don’t need to pay extra to attend those if you’re a full attendee. Just bring your wristband and your dancing shoes. At the parties, expect a great atmosphere with DJs (who specialize in Cuban music – timba, salsa, son, etc.), animations led by instructors (like fun group dances or a little Rueda game), and lots of social dancing. It’s common to dance not only Rueda but also one-on-one salsa with people you meet. The congress DJs will keep the energy high and the mix 100% danceable – “your favorite timba, salsa, and son Cubano” tunes all night. There is usually a bar available at the venue so you can purchase drinks. In short, every evening is a party, and each has its own special character throughout the congress.
