Cuban DJ Avana, aka Erick Fernandez, performed at the Rueda Congress for the first time at the 2022-edition in Oslo! As a young boy, he woke up every morning to music of the famous Beny Moré thanks to his grandfather who was Benys’ tailor, and had a close relationship with this amazing artist. Sitting on the roof with friends and trying to capture radio signals with music from the USA with a steel coat hanger was a struggle and worthwhile even though signals were never the best, it was important to be updated with new music. His fascination for music has endured, and you will notice his dedication when you enter the dance floor he’s playing at the Rueda Congress in September!
In Sweden where he lives, dj Avana has worked with several dance events around the country, like the ALOCUBANO Festival, Mama Rumba Festival and De La Havana a Eskilstuna Festival. He is also a concert & event organiser himself, for example having established a very popular Sunday Matinee in Gothenburg.
