salsanor rueda congress 2024

ALL PARTIES ARE INCLUDED IN THE CONGRESS PASS!

Thursday OPA’ning party

The “OPA” expression in Greece is often used as a celebration of life, and may be translated simply to expressions like  ‘Go!’ or ‘Cheers’.
In the greek team dancing, the word also has the purpose as an action word said on the beat of the tempo of traditional Greek songs. Just as rueda dancers would call out ‘Agua!’ A quite perfect name for a kick-off party, we thought. Starting from 22:00 with lots of social rueda and animations. Remember to have a dance or 2 with someone completely new!

21:30 PRE-PARTY TREAT – PREMIERE ON RUEDA HISTORY DOCUMENTARY & FUNDADORES RUEDA

What would be more fitting than starting off the OPA’ning of the event with a brief travel back in time, to the origin of Rueda de casino? Let’s go ‘Back to the roots’ with a brand new documentary about the origin of Rueda de casino, by Bernt Rygg, followed by short intro to learn to dance the original rueda, like the ‘fundadores’ did (the founders), by Cristian Mauricio.

The video will start 21:30 sharp, followed by the intro to the original rueda, with Cristian. We will play dance music from 21, so you may have an early dance or two. The music before the video will be beautiful Cuban dance music from the 50’s, from the time when Rueda de casino was created. Son, guaracha, cha cha cha, and perhaps a danzón or mambo.

Friday: Sabor Cubano

A 100% Cuban dance party from 22:00 to 04:00. Artist presentations, organised ruedas and animations.

Saturday Gala – The 12 Gods of Olympus – theme party

Unleash the Power of the Gods on the Dance Floor and get ready for an Epic Night of Divine Dancing! For this years’ theme party, during the Saturday Gala Night, we will dance as Gods and Goddesses of Mount Olympus.

Please find inspiration from these pictures (or use your Greek imagination) to pick your outfit for the night.

Embrace your inner god or goddess by donning your most divine attire. Prizes await the mortals with the most godly presence!

For those of you interested in knowing more details about the common symbols associated with each of the gods, you can check out the list below:

  • Zeus: Thunderbolt, eagle, oak tree.
  • Hera: Peacock, cow.
  • Poseidon: Trident, horse.
  • Demeter: Sheaf of wheat, cornucopia.
  • Athena: Owl, olive tree, helmet.
  • Apollo: Lyre, laurel wreath, sun chariot.
  • Artemis: Bow and arrow, deer.
  • Ares: Spear, helmet, chariot.
  • Hephaestus: Hammer, anvil, quenching bucket.
  • Aphrodite: Dove, seashell, myrtle.
  • Hermes: Caduceus (staff with entwined serpents), winged sandals.
  • Dionysus: Grapes, wine goblet, thyrsus (a staff entwined with ivy and topped with a pine cone).

The other 3 SalsaNor Rueda Congress parties do not have a special dress code, come as you please.

Sunday:  Fiesta Adios – Farewell – Aντιο σας

The Sunday party is very often the most laid-back and fun party at the event, with great atmosphere and loads of social dancing.

Traditionally we should have the Rueda Police visiting, and we’ll do some great organised ruedas and perhaps some demos from classes with new and interesting rueda topics.

Make sure you have saved some energy for this final celebration, and hope to see you all again for the Rueda Congress 2025!
